Kip is showing
very good ability on stock. He tends to be wide running, very serious
and thoughtful in his work. He has good balance and is easily slowed to
a steady walk on the fetch. He has a good bite when he needs it- he
will heel and head cattle, and will come in close or work wide as
needed. Kip is very biddable, always responsive to what I'm
asking him to do and willing to work with me rather than working just
for himself...yet he is tough with stock and won't back down from
challenges and he has a lot of presence. He is an extremely fast
learner; usually I just have to show him what I want and he's willing
to do it.
Kip is sweet and cuddly with people he knows and can sometimes be reserved with strangers. As he gets older (out of the adolescent stage) he is getting much more friendly with strangers and normally will be schmoozing for petting right away from people he meets. He is protective of our property if we are not right there to introduce people. He is very good with our toddler and now will even "lie down" on David's command (if David has some food to get his attention). He is a very well behaved dog who rarely chewed anything as a puppy and was easy to house train. He spends a lot of time lying around in the house- not a bit hyper or even particularly busy- although he's always ready to go if he thinks we might be heading for the sheep pen.
