Cinder is out of
Becky’s first and only litter. She picked me out as a 6 week old puppy.
Although the other puppies were flashier, she was always by my side, and has been ever since.
She is affectionate and devoted, protective, but loves people as long as she is introduced by a family member. She is an obsessive retriever. She’s even happy to play by herself by laying the ball in my lap, waiting until it rolls off, then grabbing it and putting it back on my lap. She keeps our son David entertained for hours, bringing him toys to throw, or waiting while he hides them so she can run and find them. She is incredibly good with him, never grabbing the ball from his hand no matter how much she wants it. She has a natural scent discrimination ability- if I throw one apple into a grassy clump filled with piles of fallen apples she will search until she finds the exact one I threw.

She is an indispensable hand with our sheep, has shown
courage and style on cattle and is excellent on ducks and chickens.
Even as a young dog she showed the ability to rate herself and has excellent balance. She has drive for stock or ball playing to spare and would work ‘til she dropped if I let her. Two days after her puppies were born she was begging me to take her out to work sheep.
She has some standing eye and a natural tendency to widen out to catch escaping stock. Cinder is an amazing dog around our farm. She is patient and careful when needed, and can push or bite (head or heels) if the stock gets stubborn. She only bites if it is truly needed, so our smaller stock is always safe with her. She reads stock very well, and has good balance, and she also tends to pick up chores almost immediately- if I do something the same way twice, the next time out she will do it on her own. So I have to be careful to mix up our routines occasionally if I want her to remain flexible.
She is a fairly biddable dog, but not soft. Right about in the middle, so her personality suits me very well. In the trial arena she has saved me from handler errors more times than I want to count, since she listens on an "as needed" basis, and makes her own decisions the rest of the time. This has especially helped us with cattle, since I am very inexperienced in reading and working them.
